Carrie Moss, PT is back to Lutsk

It is the third time an experienced physical therapy, Carrie Moss, visits Lutsk. She used to work in Kaiser Rehabilitation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA and came to continue ministry in our physical rehabilitation cabinet for people with disabilities funded by “Pereobrazhennya” and also to teach our physical trainers from the Fimiam Church.

We took the opportunity to get to know Carrie better. This is what she told us:

Carrie, can you please tell a few words about your childhood and your family?

I grew up in a Christian home. My father was a lawyer and my mother a housewife. I have a brother who is 3 years older, is married and has 5 children. As a child, I loved to play all sports and be outdoors.

What was your first dream about your future professional life?s

My first dream was to be a professional basketball player. As for PT, I remember hearing about it in high school and thinking I might enjoy it because it combined my loves of sports and people with disabilities.

Healthcare sphere is sometimes not very attractive, and you have to deal with people in different and often difficult health conditions but still you work as a Physical Therapist. What is the driving gear for you?

What drives me? Physical therapy is a rewarding profession because we get to help people improve their physical condition. It is motivating to work hard on behalf of my patients when I see that they have goals and are working hard to achieve them.

You came to Lutsk several times and now you continue your missionary ministry - work with people with disabilities. Can you tell us, please, a few words about your previous visits? How long do you plan to stay and what would you like to achieve during this visit?

I came to Lutsk for the first time in September of 2007 with a Joni and Friends Wheels for the World team. I came back in the spring of 2008 for 10 weeks and in 2009 I came for 10 months. I came here this time for 5 months and primarily hope to achieve improvements and growth at the rehab center and also desire to continue building relationships and serving in the ministry in any aspects I can.

You came to share your experience. What positive changes have there occurred in the work of the rehab cabinet during your work there? And what can there be changed in future?

Previous positive changes in a documentation system, weekly schedules, increased number of patients, and increased skills and knowledge of the therapists. What can change? We can further increase the knowledge and skills of therapists, train new therapists, increase therapy provided to children, and continue process improvement.

On your return to the US you probably told your friends about Ukraine, Lutsk, our church - Fimiam, people here. Looking back what were your impressions about life here? What is similar and what differs? Can you share with us about both sides - positive and negative, please?

The people here are very kind and hospitable. Winter lasts longer and summer is cooler than in Oklahoma. The Ukraine language is challenging to learn. Life for me here is not as fast-paced as in America – although it is still busy seems to be a different pace. People here intentionally take time for other people in Ukraine. The church is the body of Christ all over the world and the people of the church serve Him and serve others in similar ways in both countries. Another difference is the sports that are most popular in the countries - for Ukraine it is soccer while America prefers football, basketball, and baseball. In both countries people enjoy rest and time with family. We also have similar societal problems.

Carrie also shared her wish about future friendship and partnership between the two churches where she feels at home – Fimiam and Springs of Grace. We are the body of Christ and let us pray that we should fulfill His tasks and good works as it is written in Ephesians 2:10.

Thank you for this interview, we promise to pray for your ministry in Lutsk in the physical rehabilitation cabinet and in Fimiam Church.
