Children’s camp “A Trip to a Dream Land”
“A Trip to a Dream Land” is the name of the summer camp for children where they imagined themselves as Israelites escaping Egyptian slavery.
This camp took place at Berezhyste Lake in Sushybaba village in July 11 through 17.
Leaders conducted a camp in a very creative way. At arrival children could feel bondage of slavery. They turned out to be slaves in Egypt, where Pharaoh made them work hard. There were different i mpressions among children. Some were joking, some wondered, some were curious. After that Moses gathered all the children and asked Pharaoh to let the people go and he refused. Moses explained to children that God will bring them out of slavery. Then the children ate Matzo and meat in groups. Moses led the children around the lake and when they returned to camp, they saw a desert with sand and tents instead of a camp ground.
Every day had its theme. “Exodus” was the name of the first day.
“Without food and drink” was the name of the second day. Children were taught to be thankful to God and not to grumble when things are not going in the direction they want. They learned how to treasure God’s blessings in life.
“Rules of Life” – the third day. God gave commandments to His people to observe. We taught children to read Bible and apply it on daily basis.
“Spy” – the fourth day. Twelve campers (one of each group) went to spy the Promised Land and brought a big branch with bunches of grapes. We taught children how to trust God and rely only on Him.
“Look and Live” – the fifth day. Israelites looked at the bronze snake and lived. We need to look at Jesus Who is the only way of salvation.
“Reward” – the sixth day. Everybody received a present on this day as a symbol of reward we will receive in heaven if we stay faithful to Him.
All campers were very happy to participate in the camp and they wanted to go the next year as well. There were also unchristian children, so we were very happy to serve showing the love of God to them. We taught them to trust God in their lives.
Many parents were happy that their children had a possibility to be in such a camp. God really took care of us. He sent us a nice weather so we were able to swim in the lake and play outdoor games.
We thank God for the possibility to serve in children’s summer camp!
